Overview & Procedure
What the treatment is and how it's performed
What it is
Classic massage releases tense muscles, increases blood circulation and helps the body relax. The therapist adapts technique and pressure to what you want, from calm relaxation massage to deeper work on stiff muscles.
Treatment protocol
Many people have a massage once a month for well-being.
For stiff, sore muscles, more frequent treatments for a period can help.
Preparation
Eat a light meal a couple of hours before, not right before your appointment.
Tell the therapist about pain, injuries or areas you do not want treated.
Procedure
The appointment starts with a short talk about your wishes and any problems.
You lie on a warm treatment table, and the therapist uses oil or cream.
Tell the therapist during the massage if the pressure is too hard or too light.
Duration
30-120 minutes. You choose the length when you book.
Experience & Recovery
Pain level, downtime and healing
Pain level
Massage should not hurt, but deep massage can feel intense in tight muscles. Tell the therapist, and they will adjust the pressure.
Downtime
None. Many people feel relaxed and a little tired afterwards.
Side effects
After deep massage, your muscles can be sore for one to two days, much like after exercise.
Aftercare
Drink plenty of water and take it easy for the rest of the day.
Avoid hard exercise on the same day.
Expectations & Safety
Who it's for and safety information
Who this is suitable for
Most people. If you are pregnant, you get an adapted massage. Tell the clinic when you book.
Who this is not suitable for
Fever or acute inflammation.
Skin infection in the area.
Recent surgery.
If you have serious heart or vascular disease, ask your doctor first.
Important information
Massage does not have to hurt to work. Too much pressure can make the muscles tense up instead of relax.
Warning signs
Contact a doctor if you get pain that increases instead of easing, numbness or swelling after the treatment.
Maintenance
Most people feel lighter and more relaxed straight away. The effect on stiff muscles builds up with regular treatments. Regular massage, movement and good working positions give the best lasting effect.
